A true Alpha girl. I say 5 more to go, well she has already won 2 of the 5 since upsetting Dementieva. The feat is amazing because she had to thing and grit her way out of first set losses more than once.

Since my real interest as a mentor is in encouraging young women to go for it, I find this story irresistable. I doubt spanking had anything to do with her special combination of grit, determination, speed and court smarts. I do bet she had a lot of encouragement, support and perhaps a few pats on the bottom in an encouraging way. Root for this girl.

Alpha Girls Encore

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vtvUQl-Z8xE/SmHPtkJg53I/AAAAAAAAABQ/HSAe06-8d-4/s320/7e5a.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359793413252245362" />

First an apology for the shoody appearance of this blog. It is an attempt to preserve the best of my 360 blogs given the Yahoo consignment of the material to internet hell.

I am a confessed spanko. I like spanking in a parental way women who like or need to be spanked and who find emotional release, arousal, motivation or whatever (in short pleasure) from it. I find it exciting and rewarding if the spankee does as well.

There is another dimension though. The difference I refer to in the title. My real goal is to find real friends through this activity, women (for the most part) of all ages north of say 18 who have this interest, want to explore it but who are real and can relate to this slightly aging, golfing, opera nut. I am mid 60s, in shape active, imaginative and fun. I have met what I say I am looking for, to a much greater extent than I would have imagined. I never discuss real identities, I have not played in public and unlikely never will. But i do meet and do scenes.

Anyway one particular them is to encourage young women, indeed women of all ages to go for it. To be the best they can be. And in this vein I am presenting an edit of a blog I did a few years ago.

Now my friends, I am back from a wonderful trip to Ireland and its southwestern golf cources from Kinsale to Galway and its everything i was led to believe. Great and challenging courses, friendly people and a new dynamism among the people, optimism and bouyancy. Not everyone we know has had such a great experience alas.

But apropos of my views on mentoring, read a book called "Alpha Girls" by Dan Kindlon. I am putting some Amazon reviews below but you should access the NY Times review of last Sunday by Liesl Schillinger. So I throw out a challenge to my fellow mentors.....lets help our mentees be Alpha Girls. By the way the book credits supportive fathers who encourage their daughters to use male success patterns. Teach your daughters team sports and competition and the notion that they can do whatever they set their mind to do. (Not heavy weight boxing I hope, be reasonable)

Now to the reviews:

8 of 11 people found the following review helpful:

According to Kindlon, Alpha Girls are amazing., September 24, 2006
Reviewer: Robert Schmidt (Honolulu, HI USA) - See all my reviews
Alpha Girls: Understanding the New American Girl and How She Is Changing the World, is author Dan Kindlon's analysis of the present and future life of "alpha" girls: those girls who are excellent academic achievers, leaders in high school, shine in sports, and have high levels of self-esteem, motivation, and confidence.

Kindlon argues that, whatever the decade old AAUW study on girls reported, the new alpha girl is either immune to bias in the classroom or situated in the "new age" of education that provides opportunity and removes barriers based on sex. He reaches this conclusion after interviewing a bit over 100 "alpha girls," kids recommended to him by teachers, principals, and other students. He compares these girls to students who have completed a questionnaire in about 18 high schools concentrated in the east (6 public and the rest private).

I appreciate the analysis that Kindlon has undertaken, but I also recognize its methodological weaknesses. There is a difference in having interviews with top-performing girls (and they are going to admit that their life isn't perfect?) and looking at their school, home, and work records, and interviewing a random sample of students and looking at the characteristics of those who are performing at the top of some pre-developed scale. Also, the vast majority of kids in Kindlon's study were from private schools. This is not a random sample of Americana, and brings in biases of income, race, and social status. Thus, he states that there are these amazingly confident and motivated girls in high school as his conclusion. However, in 1999 there were 16 million kids in high school in the US. Certainly, there should have been no problem in finding about 100 of the 8 million girls to be fantastic students. One hundred out of 8 million is less than .002%. If I would look at the top .002% of girl scholars in 1950, or 1920, or 1890, I suspect these would always have been amazing girls. So one of the big questions is, what can studying the top .002% of students tell us about the experience of girls in high school today? Furthermore, how does a better understanding of this group affect the results of the AAUW study done in the 1990s? Finally, the kicker will be a longitudinal study where we can see how these girls perform in society and at home compared to a control group of girls.

This book, and the study design, would not make it into the peer-reviewed literature. However, I did enjoy, and appreciate, the lengthy discussion and review of the issues by Kindlon. I would really like this to be a book read by high school girls to get their feedback and reaction.

I wish he would have spent more time with girls in public schools. I also hope he utilized an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to gain permission to work with these minors. I didn't notice any reference to this critical oversight to make sure confidentialities and parental permissions were kept and obtained.

3 of 5 people found the following review helpful:

From the mother of an 'alpha girl' - Kindlon captures it perfectly, September 21, 2006
Reviewer: A. I have to remind myself that it's not about the destination. It's about the fact that she has the power and confidence to choose any course for her life, and ultimately her happiness is all that matters, right? Ottawa Senators (where do they get these names). I was rooting for Ottawa but when a defensman scored on his own goal-tender, I sighed and moved on until my eye was caught by:
The NCAA women's softball final ---Tennessee against Arizona
Now you know that I like to see young women going for it. Well there was that. And a wide array of physiques and pretty faces, big girls, peanuts, all manner of skin tones. And excitement. Arizona erupted for 5 runs against a pitcher who had not given up anything for a long time, including a 3 run homer off a rising inside pitch which was near miraculous. The winning pitcher is in this blog, the loser in the next pic and then for laughs I have included a pic to show one reason women's sports are fun for us aging mentors. (I wonder about lacrosse---women in short chasing each other with sticks.....hmmmm). Anyway my heart is always happy when i see women competing and going for it. My daughters did not play much softball (soccer, tennis and ultimate are their favs), but one of my friends here does. Watching any woman's sport makes my heart sing.
So here's to woman athletes everywhere. I am watching the French Open Semi between Henin and Jankovic ----great tennis. Let me provide a little context. My principal interest in spanking is the discipline of women in need, willing women who will benefit from the spanking interaction either through guilt relief or erotic pleasure , or both. There is no doubt that i derive erotic pleasure from this undertaking as well, as a recent correspondent has pointed out. There is an erotic component to this and we might as well admit it. To spank a woman who did not want a spanking would be simply assault. And by the way I do not discuss the punishment of children. Period.
Now there is no doubt that much spanking involves role play where one's partner may play a child. I have always assumed that part of that need is because the adult I am spanking sublimated the pain and shame involved in a childhood spanking by sexualizing the act. Hence the elaborate rituals and the dialogue we see and love. For me this is harmless adult play and not likely to lead to harm to real children. In fact most of my role playmates would never spank a child ...tg.
So now we come to my point. I like to spank women, but to my dismay some of the women I want to spank the most only want to be spanked by other women. I accept that, I guess I understand that. But it makes me unhappy.
Thankfully I have encountered a woman, Angie, who is definitely not this way. She is almost my ideal spanko. She likes to get spanked by her husband but also spanks women, at least in beautifully crafted role plays. And she will role play a naughty daughter as well. Heaven! In fact it is one of her blogs that gave me a point of view I think is worth sharing. She is suggesting to women who only want to be spanked by men that they should consider the unique benefits of getting spanked by a women. Let her speak for herself:
"Why then, is it so different to think about the fact that you know, maybe, just maybe, when things are getting out of control, maybe what I need is to bring things back to the time when if Ihad behaved like I'm behaving today, it would have meant a Quick trip over a womanly lap, my bottom bared, and quick justice meted out, and after the tears, a clean slate, ready to start over. And speaking for myself, and MANY other women I've talked too who've experienced discipline from both men and women, it's not that one is better than the other, but that it's simply Different. The fact that it's a woman, not a man, starts everything differently, your reactions are different, all the signals are different, the smells are different, and you know how smell can trigger different responses, especially in women, her voice... And for those women who are in relationships with guys, but only want the fun spankings from him, wouldn't a woman serve as the perfect substitute, Especially if you are straight, for your needed discipline? After all, no semiflirtatious bratting here. Here, you would be on your best behavior, knowing no little pout, no little girl foot twisting, no big eyes, is going to save your bottom, like it does with him. This is discipline, an earned punishment for an already committed misdeed. Tears will flow, and apologies as well, before its over, and she gives you that kiss on the head and the hugs and the cuddles you need and miss... For those of you, like I, who grew up in extended loving families, where a spanking could be expected from mom or grandmothers or Aunts, but so could hugs and cookies and kisses, why wouldn't this have a place in your life now? And for those of you girls who never experienced loving but firm guidance growing up, honestly, wouldn't you like to find what you never had? "
For those women out there who only want to be spanked by a woman, consider the benefits of a spanking from a caring dad mentor who can give you warmth and discipline without any overt sexual action. It can be truly cathartic. To paraphrase Angie, find out what you are missing.
Now you may wonder about the pic at the top of the page. How does that fit in? Simple, try both at the same time. To me there is a special electricity to that picture, an excitement you can find no where else.
Thoughts please. Have I brought anyone to my side?
Tags: Edit Tags
Tuesday December 18, 2007 - 09:11am (PST) Edit Delete Permanent Link 2 Comments
The Little Engine That Could ....and other musings

Well this may be a bit late for some, but its my back to school back to work message for all you mentees who hang on my every word. (Huh)
The pictured book is likely familiar to many of you. I read "The Little Engine That Could" to my daughters many many times. I particularly enjoyed chanting "I think I can ...I think I can..." to mimic the sound of the locomotive chugging up the hill and "I thought I could....I thought I could...." as it went smiling down the hill. Honest to god i convinced myself that it was really like the sound of on old steam engine (which I only remmeber from the movies...not).
The lesson of the book is obvious and maybe some would say simplistic. It tells the child that if you work hard and are determined to succeed, you can. Simplistic i say because that is not always true. But the celebration of hard work and effort and a positive attitude is what iI always stressed. In fact, with mentees this is my first and dominant theme. You can do it. That is why I have the pic of the daughter on dad's shoulders in my options. Dad will help. You can do it. That's the good part.
But then there is the other side of the coin. Sometimes a mentee has no self-esteem, raised on a steady diet of parental or spousal negativity. "You are no good...You can't get anything right..." Sometimes we find very bright people who think the rules are not made for them and they are so clever they can cut corners, skip assignments, hand in copied work, live the high life and loaf. This is where discipline has to be instilled.
No or low self esteem is very hard to deal with. And a sound spanking is not the first choice. Trying to build someone's self esteem is an effort worth undertaking. It requires patience, understanding and persistence. It helps to get someone to understand what it is and why it is harming you. but the "I am no good" or quitter mentality can also be a cover for sheer laziness or an artifice to get someone else to do your work. A good mentor knows when he is being conned and trying to con daddy is very naughty and will be dealt with accordingly.
That leaves us with the bad habits and the basic dishonesty I alluded to above. This makes dad very, very unhappy and is behaviour which cannot be ignored. You will, if you want to be mentored by me, quickly understand that you are going to be punished soundly for cheating. lies or shirking. And I do not have to go into details. (Although I will be happy to one on one if you wish)
Now you may be wondering what qualifies me to be a mentor. Let me say that in my profession (law) that is one of the most important jobs I have had over the years ...turning the young lawyers who work with me into the best lawyers I can make them. I am actually proud of what i have accomplished in this regard. And....no....I never spanked any of them (although I sure wish i could have with a few) And this is where I got what limited insights I have into how people work and succeed and what slows them down or sabotages their careers.
Know my friends I wish the best for all of you. I am sensitive to your fears and uncertainties, I am realistic in my expectations. I am actually a pretty funny guy. That said.... don't make me have to send you to my study for a "discussion."
Hugs to all

Olympic Gold and The Red Menace

I could not resist putting the pic up as the start of my stream-of -consciousness reflection on the Beijing Olympics. Go Nastia!!! There is a dad who has made a major difference in his daughter's life by educating, training and encouraging her. And the affection comes through in the moment of triumph. It actually puts a lump in my throat. I am about to give my older daughter away in marriage and hopefully see her achieve a great milestone in her professional career. You do not do that by spanking at the drop of a hat. Its a whole lot more complicated than that.
That is the good part. The bad part is the abuse that is heaped on the poor athlete's who falter. Alicia Sacramone did not deserve the finger pointing that followed her mistakes in the team competition. I rather look the look of chagrin and disappointment in the pic that follows. She did her best and ....hey .... maybe she tried too hard ...was under too much pressure.
Worse still is the criticism of the Chinese team members for being under age. Maybe they are. Nadia Comaneche (sp) was only 14, legal at the time when she was perfect in her Olympics. I have been traveling to China for nearly 20 years and have seen the miraculous progress they have made in improving the well being of the Chinese people. They are not a direct threat to our way of life, but a wake up call. Our politicians want the Chinese to stick to subsistence farming or make cheap clothes and toys and athletic shoes. Oh and get back on bicycles so we can continue to be energy pigs. China is a polluter yes but do you remember Los Angeles in the 70s, London in the 20s and 30s. The really sad thing is that the only force for helping the poor in China and dealing with pollution is the CCP. The new entrepreneurs want no part of taxes or helping the rural poor. Oh well, its just like our robber baron past I guess.
One final observation. For us spankos and apparently our lame duck President, the olympics are a constant parade of cute, cuddly and spankable bottoms. I mean women's beach volleyball I never miss. Not to mention diving, tandem diving, yes gymnastics .....write in and name your favorite spectator sport.
Finally I have added a pic of Shawn Johnson who was a close second in all around. Go girls I love ya all.
Tags: Edit Tags
Friday August 15, 2008 - 07:17am (PDT) Edit Delete Permanent Link 0 Comments
May-September ...April-October....And Beyond

I saw The Jane Austen Book Club 2 months or so ago on one of my long plane trips to the East. After a while you will watch almost anything on a trip like that, and there was nothing on offer with Scarlett in it, so .......
For those of you who do not know, this is the ultimate chick flick, almost naueseatingly so. Jimmy Smits decides to dump his first wife for a hot lawyer at his law firm, which we know happens ALL the time. Her best friend, seeking to repair her damaged ego, forms a Jane Austen Book Club and invites a number of girl friends, one of whom recruits this hot (how would I know) young guy (Hugh Dancy) who they want to interest in the jilted wife (Kathy Baker). Also in the club is a 40ish dog breeder, Jocelyn (Maria Bello), who has apparently no interest in two legged male animals. Also recruited to the club is a bookish, prim french teacher (Emily Blunt) with the incisive name of Prudie. She is married to a sports nut who thinks Austen is the capital of Texas.
Well you can guess what happens. The cute guy is stuck on the dog breeder, Smits sees the error of his ways (without the aid of Jane Austen it appears) and dumps the legal babealicious to return, tail between his legs (NPI), to his lovely wife. The neanderthal sports jock becomes a cuddly, soignee husband by readin JA. And, of course, the dog breeder, Jocelyn, finally comes to realize that Dancy is madly in love with her and deigns to notice and they fall in love despite his youth and her steely exterior. Well at least we can say that the characters change over the course of the movie. Well done .....
So since the end of this movie was as predictable as my destination still some 5 hours off, why did I hang in there. I will give you a hint. Maria Bello is hot. She reminded me of some of the women I want to reach across an age gap of say 20 ish years. I am talking romance here not spanking. So there. I meet a lot of successful accomplished women who are available (alas my ideal soul mate is not available). Their lives are so complicated that they cannot find the off button, where business pursuits can be put on hold, and romance can bloom. It is great to spend an intimate dinner discussing business prospects I can turn up right?
Anyway, all is not glum across the age divide. I have several wonderful woman friends from many parts of the age spectrum. The point is its easy for a woman to fantasize a younger lover. And since this is the ultimate chick flick, that is exactly what you would expect. What woman would not want a cute lap dog, who could not get enough of Jane Austen? Are you kidding me? And it is no secret that guys want younger. But how much younger?
So here is a little quiz. How big an age difference is too big for you. Reasons for your answer are also welcome. This is honest consumer sampling btw I do not want to waste my valuable time paying court to a too much younger woman. Older is out of the question lol
what age difference is too big for you?
+5
1
-5
0
+10
2
-10
0
+15
3
-15
1
+20
2
-20
1
whocares
21

Its the Family Stupid

I must apologize for wandering from my single minded focus on spanking and how it adds spice and savor to the lives of those consenting adults who want to explore it. But we do live in extraordinary times and I have to make a few points. Bear in mind I have lived in the world that has brought you this fiasco of a month for 40 years, not as banker or financier or broker. But Ihave some knowledge of what I say. I have seen the doldrums of the 70s, the crash of october 19 , 1987, the bursting of the internet bubble. This is (maybe) a whole differnt thing. The plunge of the past week is sickening, independent investment banks are soon to be a thing of the past, a lot of families in the finance industry and elsewhere are hurting, retirees could be very seriously damaged. This is very sad. But it also may be a wake-up call to us all.
This was brought home when I read an article in the NY Times Style Section for this past Sunday captioned "The Frugal Teenager, Ready or Not." I am not clever enough to post a url for the article. Sorry. Technology challenged. To oversimplify its about teens who are angry because their parents are saying "no." One girl was grossed out when her mom suggested that she buy designer jeans second hand in the Thrift Shop. Another mom observed about her teens becoming angry and argumentative over money "They seem so selfish" and is reported as wondering whether the fault was hers, that "early lavishness was a parental failing." Read the article which does get around to observing that maybe now we can focus on core values.
So where am I going with this? Well believe it or not I grew up with parents who lived through the depression and I actually know what war time rationing is since, when I was maybe 3, my mom was told the sugar had run out with the person in front of us. I was furious and stamped my 3 year old foot.
What I remember is that its the family that counts. Everyone pitches in and helps, older and younger generations, and you pay the important things first, like the mortgage and real estate taxes or the rent and food you bring home and cook at home and utilities (which is why you shut off lights when you are not around). Air conditioning did not exist and family vacations lasted 2 weeks and were usually within a 4 hour drive max. Not that I would wish this monastic life on any American family. What I am saying is, I lived that way once and I can again. And so can you.
And I tried to impart those values to my own children. Imagine when I am wiped out and I tell them I am moving into the spare room. Then we will hear about it! And so can we all if we have to because the family is what it is all about. We don't live on the farm anymore and gather in the crops. But in essence that is all we are, farmers, hunters, not Masters of the Universe. And if we have extra we can share it with those who are having a hard time. Doesn't that make you feel better.
Now i know this is sappy and trite but believe it or not it is sincere. And no I do not want to spank all those snotty teens who tell there parents they don't need their money because they will sell more pot. (Well actually I do and so should you)
So like all of you I pray the market will come back and that gas prices will go back to $4.00 a gallon because that is all the pain the average American can tolerate and its good for the planet.
But remember stick together as a family and we can get through anything!

A Role Play Drama

eThere follows excerpts from a role play scene I and a female correspondent in England are currently playing. She is an amazing player and challenges all my skills. I also think it shows off the ambiguity of any spanking scene played as discipline.
I would be interested in your reactions positive or negative.
By way of context, Emily had forgotten to deliver a note to Bill Nicholson and cut school to deliver it. She was rude and made cutting remarks against working class girls in her school. She made snide remarks about his housekeeping and finally asked him to cover her absence with a lie to the school authorities. He lost his temper, sentenced her to a mouth soaping and a spanking. I pick up the story after the soaping ....
Bill was rather impressed by the discomfort the soap had produced in Emily's mouth. He did indeed think she was sorry for telling lies. But when she went to the third glass of water, he realized that her quick mind was whirring, trying to avoid step 2.
"That's quite enough Emily. Its time we get to act 2 of this drama. No you cannot go .....at least anywhere other than to my bedroom where you can expect the spanking you have clearly earned."
With that he took her upper left arm and tugged her firmly out the bathroom door. He was firm but not violent and she was soon in his bedroom.
"Now do we need to go over why we are here? Why are you being punished? Emily I expect you to tell me clearly why you are about to get a good sound spanking."
He stood back arms crossed looking as determined as he could be, but his resolve weakened by her doe eyed protestations of improvebebehaviour. He was never as harsh as he wanted to be.
Bill
She paused for breath, "But I really like you Uncle Bill and I know you like me and are trying to do what's best for me...." She stepped closer to him and looked up into his eyes with hers brimming with tears. "My Daddy never cared about me Uncle Bill - I could do anything I liked and he didn't care. Not like you Uncle, I know you really care."
And with that she suddenly leaned forward, placing her hands on his shoulders and burying her face in his chest as she sobbed out the words, "I wish you were my Daddy Uncle Bill.....but all you want to do is spank me."
Emily.
Bill had left his bedroom in quite a state. He was never much for picking up after himself what with always having an orderly or a maid to see to that. He was feeling increasingly awkward about carrying through with his intended punishment of Emily's lies and snottiness. And just for his benefit she did a complete reprise of why he had sentenced her to a spanking. Yet ......she was such a comely thing and so sweet and vulnerable and now she was approaching him. It was all he could do to stand his ground. God how had this come to pass, the cold and uncaring father ....a rather lethal Czech girl had almost taken him down with a similar appeal. He reached for the girl hugging her to his chest. She was certainly not an enemy agent. And there was such evident sincerity in what she was saying. And ....and ...
He stroked her hair and rubbed her back. And then held her at arm's length, exhaling deeply.
"Ah my dear Ems....I am profoundly sorry you father was so unconcerned about you. I am sure he does love you in a very fundamental way. But you Brits just can't seem to get oveprproperness or whatever you want to call it. Manners trumping emotionbubushwa."
He looked tenderly at her brimming eyes. "I am sorry that it has to come to this. But you must be punished as we have discussed. It is really an act of love and the passing discomfort is like a tonic that clears the air and washes away guilt. Come let us get this over with. Raise your skirt ...you will be spanked on your knickers ..."
It was all he could do to maintain his composure.
Bill Nicholson
Emily had by now realized that despite the new and wonderful emotional and physical closeness between them, her Uncle seemed determined to carry out part 2 of her 'lesson'.
It was obvious to her that her really cared for her, and maybe even loved her a little, and so she didn't think that he would really hurt her. No, it was more the humiliation inherent in such a intimate form of punishment, where, by default he would see all of her upper thighs and her bottom would just be covered by a thin layer of knickers material.
And now he was telling her to raise her skirt. "I'm sorry Uncle but I can't do that....I just can't. You can't expect me to do that. If you insist on spanking me after all we....well, if you insist, then you'll have just have to do it over my skirt. So there."
She looked at him reproachfully, her eyes again brimming with tears.
Emily.
Bill looked upward, trying not to roll his eyes. He saw the force of what she was saying and her scent, and the feel of her arms around his neck ,had almost undone him. God she was still almost a child. He had to get control of himself. Not to mention the inappropriateness of coming on to a pupil. To be sure such things had happened in other schools, what with the British allowing corporal punishment by male masters of female students. But this was such a real and genuine feeling he was experiencing. This girl, this Emily, was a special person, sensitive, thoughtful ......damn it .....a true physical beauty. There he had admitted it to himself. But he had to continue and finish this lesson, didn't he.
He cleared his throat and looked intently into Emily's eyes. These British girls had such saucer-like eyes that were near mesmerizing.
"Girl did I not give you a direction. There is nothing inappropriate about a girl submitting to a punishment. Unfortunately you never learned how to do it properly. Or at all, it seems."
He dropped his hands, finding the physical contact more than he could bear, trying to wrench his mind into neutral and away from the precipice of her rare beauty.
"Need I remind you that resistance and lack of cooperation during well deserved discipline, is characteristically met with .....I believe the word is .... escalation. By which is meant more and harsher discipline. Indeed I would be well within the rules to bare you this instant and commence your spanking on the bare bottom. Do you understand me?"
He could not believe he had said that. Indeed if he did carry out that threat there was serious risk that he would loose all control. He clasped his hands in front of him, stretching his knuckles until they popped. God miss Emily was a minx....
Bill Nicholson
I play Bill Nicholson an OSS agent on leave in England, teaching at a private girls school. Em is one of my pupils .
Tags: Edit Tags
Sunday November 16, 2008 - 06:30pm (PST) Edit Delete Permanent Link 0 Comments
Spock, Greenspan, Permissiveness and Economic Disaster

I was reading my morning paper and I came across this from The NY Times on Wednesday of this week.
"The American International Group is rapidly running through $123 billion in emergency lending provided by the Federal Reserve, raising questions about how a company claiming to be solvent in September could have developed such a big hole by October. Some analysts say at least part of the shortfall must have been there all along, hidden by irregular accounting."
Now boys and girls that $123 billion (not a misprint) that is your and my money. So I then remembered reading this delphic pronouncement by the former head of our Federal Reserve.
In his prepared testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Greenspan lamented that “those of us who have looked to the self-interest of lending institutions to protect shareholders’ equity (myself especially) are in a state of shocked disbelief.”
So what do we have here. Little boys who think that by not telling the truth, they will avoid ...er ....consequences. And an indulgent Paternalist who thinks everyone will naturally play by the rules and be fair.
Where did this mess come from. Hmmmm ...The name of that famous expert on child care Dr. Spock of course came to mind. "Never visit dire consequences on your dear children, lest you stifle their creativity." Sorry i paraphrase. Well maybe you don't stifle greed either or a tendency to tell lies to avoid consequences or a lot of other behaviour that can do harm to a whole hell of a lot of people, innocent people who have seen their pensions and savings shrunk and jobs lost.
Now who knows whether the boys at AIG hid their losses or broke the law. That will be decided in endless, expensive legal battles. Suffice it to say that the behaviour pattern of avoiding responsability and not facing the truth was so reminiscent of the little boy or girl who does something wrong and when caught blurts out ..."how did you know daddy?" The answer I got was always "sooner or later daddy always finds out." And so in my professional life I have always advised facing the music. The rationales for burying the truth are manifold. "It will hurt the company." How effing thoughtful! So our Spockian generation has been unhooked from that simple truth that "Daddy will always find out." And advisors can be found to justify massive reality avoidance.
And what about the big daddy? He is shocked that the boys ran amock so they could have more toys. That they put their interests ahead of stockholders, depositors and society as a whole. Now I ask you Dr. Spock, were you surprised that men and women raised in a culture of self acutualization (gratification) with compensation systems that paid so well for apparent results with no accountability until it was too late, took too many cookies? where did they learn that? My god these kids were "special". Failure was banished. Baseballs were put on tees.
Now what am I saying here. We have to go back to spanking children like we did in the 20s and 30s? I do not advocate spanking children I have never met and my views on the subject are entirely private. What I am saying is that we have to instill values in our children like facing reality, accepting consequences and caring way more for our fellow man. We don't need the government to tell us to do that (sorry Mr. Obama I can do more good with my money than any government bureauocracy). Anyone who things that greed is good, that the truth can be hidden or massaged, is doing us all a disservice.
All I am saying is "Give Truth a chance."

Patience Patience

I am new to This so be patient.
